Open-source database technologies, traditionally, were used for less critical or internal applications. There were various reasons for that but for larger organisations it was more to do with the fact that there was no proper support available, and they felt it was not very secure to be used for mission critical application. On the other hand they didn’t want to spend too much on less critical application and hence went for open source technologies. This has changed now. Microsoft provide Open-source databases as a PaaS option. This would address every concern organisations have in terms of support, security, Business continuity and cost. We will discuss this in details in this session.
