SQL Server & Kubernetes

Andrew Pruski

Container technology has taken the whole world by storm and since 2017, we can run SQL Server in a container!

Running SQL Server in containers has many benefits for Data Platform professionals but there are many challenges as well.

Orchestrators provide a platform and the tools to overcome these challenges and the most popular orchestrator by far is Kubernetes.

Join Microsoft Data Platform MVP and Certified Kubernetes Administrator, Andrew Pruski, to dive into the world of Kubernetes!

This session will provide an overview of Kubernetes, how it works, the challenges it overcomes, and the challenges that it comes with.

We will cover the defintion of Kubernetes constructs such as deployments, pods, and services. Then we’ll look at how to deploy SQL Server to Kubernetes and avoid some of the pitfalls of the platform.

Then, most importantly for Data Platform professionals, we’ll learn how to persist our data in Kubernetes.

Finally, we’ll have a bit of fun and look at a tool for testing high availability in Kubernetes using Space Invaders!

This session is aimed at anyone who wants to learn the what, the why, and the how to run SQL Server on Kubernetes.
