Log-Based CDC for SQL Server Always On Availability

Mark Van de Wiel

Businesses that run mission-critical applications on Microsoft SQL Server need a strategy for high availability and disaster recovery. A common solution to this requirement is SQL Server Always On availability groups, otherwise called SQL Server AG. Users who make this investment are serious about the criticality of their data and applications. In addition, the configuration supports a failover environment for a set of databases where primary databases can failover to secondary databases.

These secondary databases are sometimes opened for ad-hoc read-only queries or data warehousing operations. Data in this on-premise always-on availability group often needs to be replicated to the cloud to populate a cloud data warehouse or data lake. This talk will focus on database replication from SQL Server availability groups to non-SQL Server databases in the cloud.
