Comparing Microsoft SQL Server to Open Source DB Systems
Lee Coates
How do you choose a database for a system? In our community, Microsoft SQL Server is a safe bet, but how do data workers know SQL Server is such a good choice, and how can we know what situations are suitable for other, Open Source Database Platforms like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB? In this session, attendees will gain an understanding of the similarities and differences between these Database Management Systems along with a strategy and the fundamental skills to leverage each one where it will bring the most value. The presentation will review the history of databases, demo the experiences of using each product, explore the capabilities of each database platform, examine the architectural designs through the systems, and finally see how each one is leveraged in the wild. Join this session to appreciate database technologies of all kinds!
