It's our 7th mostly-annual donut meetup!

If you're in town the Monday of PASS Data Community Summit, come by Top Pot on 5th. Have a donut, chat with fellow Summit attendees and the MinionWare/MidnightDBAs crew...it's a lovely kick-off to the week.

It’s donuts for dinner again, and we’re fine with that! Or consider it a sweet, sweet appetizer.

MinionWare LLC is sponsoring this event, so come on down for a free donut and a hangout. No formal presentations, just hanging out and talking.

Location: Seattle Convention Center at the fountain (bottom of escalators)

Hosted by: Patrick Locher

I would like to invite you to join me for a photo walk at the beginning of the PASS Data Community Summit 2023. Come meet some of your fellow Summit attendees, take some photos, and enjoy a stroll through the local area.

We will meet in the Seattle Convention Center at the fountain (bottom of escalators).

What is a photowalk:

- small walk through the town

- capture impressions with the camera

- look at the area from a different angle

- exchange ideas with other participants

A few key points to remember.

1. No skill level is required. Whether you are picking up a camera for the first time or have taken some of the greatest photo's of all time. Regardless of skill level we want to see you!

2. No, you don't need a fancy camera. Whether it be pinhole, cell phone, digicam, DSLM or DSLR, they're all ok to us.

3. Even the camera is optional. If you don't want to take pictures, join us for the walk and chat with other Summit attendees.

Again this about enjoying other #sqlfamily company and seeing the world around you.

We are planning to walk from the Convention Center, through the 7th Ave to The Spheres, Pike Place Market, then to Waterfront Park, then up on the Harbor Steps, to the Seattle Tower, around the 5th Avenue Theatre and return to the Convention Center.

The whole route can be done in about 1 hour walking. With photography about 90min to 2 hours

Social Hashtag: #sqlPhotowalk, #PASSDataSummit

I hope we shoot some good pictures together

Patrick

Meditation Session

Location: Room 205

Hosted by: Jen McCown

Join me for 30 minutes of peaceful meditation at Summit!

We'll practice Shambhala meditation, a secular approach that offers a simple yet profound way to experience inner calm and clarity.

All are welcome to participate in this moment of stillness, whether you’re new to meditation or an experienced practitioner. Just come with an open heart, and a willingness to be quiet and respectful as we meditate together!

- - -
Paraphrased from Wikipedia:

Shambhala meditation's technique involves sitting with legs loosely crossed, maintaining good posture, leaving your eyes slightly open, and focusing your attention on the out-breath. As you breathe out, you may experience a sense of dissolving, with no specific attention required during the in-breath.

Keep your hands face down on your thighs and, if your mind starts to wander, simply label your thoughts as 'thinking' before gently returning your focus to the out-breath.

Meditation, as described in Shambhala, is a natural state of the human mind – at rest, open, and alert. It's a practice that can help you find a sense of peace and clarity in our fast-paced world.

This photowalk is meant for the morning, To enjoy a later evening photo walk please see this one. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sql-photo-walk-tickets-741652611927

I have every intention of attending both!

We welcome you to join us for a wonderful morning of Photography at the PASS Summit 2023. If you are unclear about what a photowalk is you can check out this post. http://sqlasylum.wordpress.com/2011/09/25/pass-2011-photowalk/. A few key points to remember.

1. No skill level is required. Whether you are picking up a camera for the first time or have taken some of the greatest photo's of all time. Regardless of skill level we want you!

2. No you don't need a fancy camera. A camera is all that is required, whether that be pinhole, cell phone or DSLR. Again this about enjoying other #sqlfamily company and seeing the world around you.

You can spend as little or as long as you want on the walk. The plan is to head to Pikes place and then to Olympic Sculpture park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/nWMpP19tLiJPkSN4A)

This is not a fast walk and you can stop and get breakfast/coffee, Hopefully on the way back we can stop and get lunch as well. This is very much an open walk that you can join anywhere along the way.

The info below is a little old for the Flickr stream but we can keep using it. I think we can make that decision based on those on the walk.

Hashtag to use #sqlpassPhotowalk

Tag to use on Flickr : SqlPass -- these will show up in the flickr photostream for PASS
