Migrating Synapse SQL Pool Across Azure Tenants

I found myself with a unique use case where the customer needed to migrate their Synapse SQL Pool (Azure SQL DW) across tenants. That’s right, not just a different Subscription but, a whole new Azure Tenant!

Scouring through Microsoft’s documentations, Stack Overflow, blog posts and exhaustive Google searches, there were no articles out there on how to do this. After weeks of experimentation and R&D work, we were finally able to do it!

In this presentation, we will go through the detailed steps of successfully migrating a Dedicated SQL Pool (Azure SQL DW) across Subscription and Tenant boundaries. You will walk away with a deeper understanding of how the various Azure services come into play, a step-by-step plan on how to do this, the various considerations to account for, and the scripts used to perform this migration. Additionally, we will also go over lessons learned from this migration.
