Building a Team of Unicorns

Gillian Garbus

The average office employee is productive for only about one third of their workday. The outliers, the 20% of people who are doing 80% of the work, to reference the pareto principle, are often referred to as “unicorns” due to how difficult they are to find and hire. As a leader of a group of consultants, it was my job to ensure my entire team was someone else’s unicorn. It became clear to me almost immediately that good hiring practices are the very beginning of this process, and that unicorns are grown, not hired. This is a 45-minute need-to-know session on cultivating, maintaining, and most importantly, motivating your current team into becoming a team of unicorns.
