Building a Global Health Data Repository

Thomas Pagel

In this real-world scenario, we look at how an organization built up a single repository for all health-related data existing in the teams working on data assets which, in the end, find their place in different reports, either printed or on their website.

Through a multi-year joint effort, of different partners (including Microsoft), the organization’s platform offers member states, employees, partner organizations, and the public a secure place for their data and makes a large choice of tools available to collect, process, and publish it.

In this session, you’ll hear about major design choices, the actual implementation details, the experience we had with new tools like Synapse and Purview, and the road ahead. Other talking points will include the importance of DevOps and a solid deployment pipeline while still being open for end-users and their workstyle – plus some thoughts on the cooperation of classical Data Warehouses/Databases and Data Lake concepts with the idea of a Data Mesh.
