Monitoring SQL Server Performance on Linux

Rick Lowe

Over the years we have become accustomed to an embarrassment of riches when it comes to monitoring options for SQL Server on Windows. Support for SQL Server on Linux is tremendously exciting, but before MSSQL on Linux can really compete with MSSQL on Windows in production environments we must have the same visibility into system health. Many features such as wait stats and most dynamic management views are the same, but there are things that are different as well (notable, the absence of perfmon). We will discuss techniques for monitoring the health of SQL Server on Linux, with a focus on using SAR as a replacement for perfmon.
