DAX Demystified: Using the Lego Blocks Approach
Avi Singh
Do you find DAX hard? You are not alone. Thousands of my students agree that DAX is by far the most challenging element, but it doesn’t have to be.
DAX is actually simple – as simple as Lego blocks with simple rules that you can learn and follow, just like Lego blocks.
But then why does DAX *feel* so complicated? Well, when my son was 5 years old, he would build cars out of Lego blocks, much like friends of mine at Microsoft who built the ‘Taj Mahal’ or ‘Star Wars Spaceship’, also with Lego blocks. No matter how complicated it might *feel*, they are all built out of the same, simple, Lego blocks.
The same goes with DAX. Once you understand the simple rules and learn the different ways that these rules can be combined – you will soon be building amazing DAX measures that look like the ‘Taj Mahal’ or the ‘Star Wars Spaceship’.
